Awarding Body – regulatory decisions
SQA Accreditation has the power to apply the following sanctions to awarding bodies, following review:
- Category 1 Regulatory Sanction: Suspension of accredited qualification(s)
- Category 2 Regulatory Sanction: Withdrawal of accredited qualification(s)
- Category 3 Regulatory Sanction: Removal of approved awarding body status

- Closed - Awarding Body has carried out appropriate corrective action to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Live - Awarding Body currently considering appropriate corrective action to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
- De-approved - Awarding Body failed to take appropriate corrective action to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements
Where sanction status is 'live' sanctions shall remain on the register until 6 months after appropriate corrective action is taken.
All closed or de-approved: Where sanction status is 'closed' or 'de-approved' sanctions shall remain on the register until 6 months after date action closed or date of de-approval.
